Day 1 - LID diet

Today started my two week long diet of being low iodine. This is my third time doing LID, and I wanted to share what I ate each day. Please refer to what your doctor wants you to do for your LID, as I've noticed some differences between what different sites/doctors say is LID-approved.


8:45 -- Breakfast:

1 Thomas English Muffin, Organic Raspberry Preserves


I was also supposed to have a smoothie for breakfast, but my blender decided to die mid-smoothie making. Please note that Thomas English Muffins might contain soy, but I've read on a few sites that they are okay, so I'm risking it. This breakfast was good; I really enjoyed the raspberry preserves I bought from Trader Joe's. However, I was hungry less than two hours later.

10:30 -- Drink:

I started sipping on a Humm Blueberry Mint kombucha because I was feeling a little hungry.


11:30 -- Lunch (kind of):

I had a bunch of carrots and Sabra Roasted Garlic Hummus. This was good, and lasted for a while.

12:40 -- Lunch (still kind of):

I had a strawberry & peanut butter Uncrustable, which was tasty, but so little.

I felt so hungry! My stomach felt empty and hollow.

2:15pm -- Snack

My stomach started to growl, so I had a green apple to tide me over at work until dinner. At this point, I was getting a bit crabby, tired, and HANGRY.


6:30pm -- Dinner!

Originally, I was going to have roasted veggies and rice, but I just couldn't do it. I read somewhere that Chipotle was LID approved (except for sour cream + cheese, of course), so for dinner I had a burrito bowl.

I had double chicken, white rice, no beans, corn salsa, pico de gallo, and lettuce. This was good, but a little spicy without the cheese and sour cream I normally have with it. After this, I kind of started just being hungry a lot. Dinner wasn't doing it for me. I might have been full, but I didn't really feel satisfied by anything I was eating..


I also toasted another English muffin to have with raspberry preserves. I cracked open a Simpler Wines peach sparkling wine cooler with it.


8:30pm -- Snack (but kind of second dinner)

I was still feeling hungry, so I made up some Trader Joe's sweet potato fries (which were BOMB) and ate another Uncrustables. This little mini meal satisfied me! The sweet potato fries were so amazing, and warm. Much of my food today was all cold, and I just can't do a whole day of that.


I'm writing this at almost 11pm, and I'm still a little hungry, but I think okay. I realized today that I didn't drink nearly enough water... maybe 2 water bottles full. Either way, i'm hoping to get a big night of sleep to try to keep my energy up throughout the day tomorrow.


Comment below your biggest frustration with LID, but also a moment of victory for you! I'm discovering some new foods and ways of eating, and that's great. I think this mini "diet" will actually be good for me... I'll be eating way less fat and way more fruits and veggies!
